This valuable resource provides the following:
    • Biographic profiles of individuals from all fields of the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, technology, and medicine.
    • Statistics and bibliographies for research on African Americans in science and technology.

Black Facts Online

This website offers a database that can be searched using keywords. Search for biographic information by using either the names of individuals or terms like science, chemistry, etc. Note, the search engine seeks exact matches, so using "chemistry" and "chemist" will yield different results. Also, abbreviated terms like "math" will yield different results than "mathematics." Happy searching!

Unique Resources

Mathematical Patterns in African American Hairstyles

    This site has been developed by a mathematician and educator who studies the mathematical patterns embedded in cultural practices. The presentation focuses on the geometrical designs and patterns commonly used in hair braiding and weaving in African-American communities.

African American Contributors

    This site was developed by eighth grade students in conjunction with an integrated unit on Africa, and contains short biographies on many African-Americans who have made significant contributions to American culture. A list of several scientists is included.
