B. anthracis Images

The image below shows the histology of Bacillus anthracis (the bacterium that causes anthrax) in the liver of an infected animal. A dilated blood vessel at left contains small rods of bacteria. This Bacillus anthracis image was obtained from a mouse during research conducted to improve diagnostic testing.

The electrom micrograph below shows a macrophage surrounded by Bacillus anthracis. Clear spaces represent capsule material that prevents uptake by the cell and killing of bacteria.
