Brief Introduction
The Clearinghouse is one of 16 in the ERIC system. ERIC (Educational
Resources Information Center) is supported with funding
from the U.S. Department of Education, and its purpose is to support ongoing
improvement in education in all areas at all levels. We call ourselves CSMEE
for short (pronounced "kizz-me"), and our hope is to provide resources
of interest to anyone interested in science, mathematics, and environmental
education, in school or out of school. We are located on the campus of The
Ohio State University and ours is one of the original ERIC Clearinghouses
founded in 1966.

ERIC/CSMEE Mission
ERIC/CSMEE hopes to facilitate improved teaching, learning, and scholarship in science, mathematics, and environmental education through the active exchange of information and services. In pursuing this mission, particular attention is given to:
- Promoting lifelong education for all, particularly among those populations that have historically been underserved or underrepresented in the pursuit of science and mathematics.
- Fostering equity in access to information and quality of life in the
environment.
- Celebrating diversity in cultural identity, instructional approaches, learning styles, and indicators of
success.

ERIC/CSMEE
Function and Publications
ERIC/CSMEE has as its primary function the retrieval and dissemination of printed materials related to science, mathematics, and environmental education. This information is indexed and abstracted for inclusion in two monthly publications, Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE). RIE provides abstracts for a variety of education materials. CIJE announces journal literature.
In addition to acquiring and processing documents and journal articles, the
ERIC/CSMEE staff produces digests, bulletins, books, and other informational products. Digests are short publications (one page, front and back) on a single topic. Bulletins treat a subject in more depth and contain more references than are cited in a
digest (Click here to see the ERIC/CSMEE
SciEd digest list stored in this CD-ROM).
Other publications are frequently produced in cooperation with professional organizations. Such Clearinghouse publications include yearbooks, science sourcebooks, reviews of research activity collections on a broad topic, and collections of papers presented at national meetings.
Our desire at the Clearinghouse is to produce useful materials for educators at all levels, parents, and others needing information about educational practices or research findings. We welcome ideas about publications to meet particular needs.
